A Study on Diffuser Augmentation of a Tidal Turbine

As tidal energy is progressively earning attention worldwide, there a lot of existing research about the current potency and turbine design. Especially on design, studies deduced that diffuser augmentation superior choice to increase performance. However, in finding best angle whose efficiency maximum, yet minim cavity risk still limited. Therefore, this study proposes an innovative, optimized design method by comparing four angles three inflow velocity circumstances. In particular, airfoil blades with rotor diameter 0.3 m was developed. The combination computational fluid dynamic multi-objective optimization using general algorithm coupled artificial neural network applied considering turbine’s power coefficient cavitation inception as trade-off objective. numerical results display different affects performance insignificantly. analysis comparison among variations show turbine's optimal could be all speed.
